Once you have breathed as much air as you can, hold the air and using your right thumb, once again, close the right nostril, exhaling from the left nostril.
You can continue practicing this alternate nostril breathing technique for some time, till your breath comes in a gentle flow. Once you have breathed in and out from both the nostrils, you complete a full cycle. When you are just beginning, start with about five cycles a day. You can increase the count by one cycle a day. Ideally, twenty cycles a day will be extremely useful for you.

Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease in which the body’s natural immune system begins to destroy the connective tissues of body parts and organs. Hatha yoga poses: ‘Ha’ can be translated to mean ‘sun, and ‘tha’ is ‘moon’. Thus Hatha yoga is usually translated to mean a union of opposites. Mastering the various postures leads to strengthening the will and powers of concentration. This is an advanced form of yoga which helps in achieving powers of meditation.
Vinyasa yoga: Vinyasa means ‘movement which is breath synchronized’. In Vinyasa yoga, the poses are synchronized with the inhalation and exhalation of breath, and they flow from one pose to another. That is why it is also referred to sometimes as the Vinyasa Flow. The poses can be fast or slow, depending upon the person practicing it, but the rhythmic movements seem like a dance, since each pose merges seamlessly into the next one. Vinyasa yoga can be termed an advanced form of yoga since it requires great balance and synchronization.
Some advanced yoga poses:
Yoga Triangle Pose (Trikonasana): This requires a proper sense of balance, concentration and co-ordination. It starts with the Downward Facing Dog Pose (Adho Mukha Svanasana) and requires you to twist and stretch your body, while you balance your body on outstretched legs.
Yoga Firefly Pose: This pose begins with squatting and then requires you to lift your legs off the floor and stretch them out behind you, while you balance your entire body on your hands. The appearance of the completed pose is that of a firefly, and hence the name. It is a difficult pose which requires not only balance, but also muscle strength of the wrists and arms.
Yoga Headstand Pose (Sirasana): This is a very advanced inverted pose, where the practitioner stands on the head. It is usually performed on a blanket and begins with kneeling on the floor. The head is then placed on the floor, and first the knees and then gradually the entire body is lifted off the floor and stretched out straight towards the ceiling. This requires great balance and strength of the spinal muscles and the entire torso.
While it is necessary to stay fit and healthy, there are limits to the types of physical activities and exercises which can be done. Seniors are usually advised milder forms of exercises like walking. This is where yoga proves useful.

- Since yoga exercises can be adapted to the abilities and needs of an individual, they are suitable for seniors, by taking into account their physical limitations. There are also some gentle yoga poses which are particularly suitable for seniors.

- Breathe and stay in this position for at least ten seconds or if you wish, till thirty seconds.

A dry flaky scalp is a common problem that occurs when we lose more than the normal amount of dead cells from our scalp. In other words, the dead cells tend to accumulate and cluster together to form grey or white flakes. Also known as dandruff, this condition of the scalp can occur if it is either too dry or too oily. Dandruff in the hair generally causes itchiness, but if you feel that the itching is acute, you may be suffering from what is known as seborrheic eczema. This condition is symptomised by flakes that are greasy and yellow in colour, and it can affect the eyebrows, face, and upper body as well. You will have to consult a dermatologist if this is the case.
Treatment For Itchy And Flaky Scalp
There are several anti-dandruff shampoos in the market which you can try although there is always a chance of recurrence once you stop using it. Make sure to not share your towel, combs and hair brushes with anyone else in your family and you can try massaging coconut oil that has been warmed up a bit into your scalp. Wash it off with a mild shampoo in an hour or so. Clean your hair brush and comb after every use to prevent a re-infection. Bend down and brush your hair from the nape to the tips of the hair. This will aid in dislodging the dirt and dandruff flakes. Once winter sets in you may want to use a shampoo and conditioner meant specifically for a dry scalp. Once the flakes and itchiness disappear you can switch back to the shampoo that suits your hair type. Hot showers are also a bad idea for the hair, so try to wash your hair in water at normal temperature and massage the conditioner into in your scalp. This will act as a moisturizer on your hair, but take care to wash out the shampoo thoroughly before doing so as conditioners have a tendency to seal down the outer surface of the hair. While this will make your hair smooth and easier to comb, it will seal off the remaining shampoo in your scalp and cause it come out as flakes. Dry used tea leaves, and boil five teaspoons of it in lime water. Use this solution as a conditioner after shampooing your hair to clear out the flakes and reduce the itchiness. Soak two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds overnight and grind them into a fine paste in the morning. Gently massage it into the scalp and wash it off after half an hour or so. Try not to scratch your scalp as much as possible, instead massage with your finger tips for relief from the itching.

Causes Of Excess Saliva
The inner lining of the oral cavity contains ducts called the salivary glands that produce a liquid substance consisting of sodium, potassium, digestive enzymes and water. This liquid is commonly known as saliva. It helps in keeping the mouth well hydrated and clean, and in defending it against bacterial infections. Saliva aids in tasting of food as well as its digestion. On an average, the salivary glands produce between one and two quarts of saliva every day. As a natural body process, we constantly keep swallowing saliva while talking, breathing, and of course eating and drinking without realizing that we are doing so. Placing food inside the mouth, or even the smell of food reaching the oral cavity through the nostrils, stimulates increased saliva production, which is necessary for proper tasting, smelling and swallowing of food. Thus, when one starts feeling excessive saliva in his or her mouth, it is either because of a problem relating to swallowing or due to the overproduction of saliva by the salivary glands. This is usually a short-term condition and is rarely a cause of major concern. A condition called sialorrhea is the primary cause of excessive saliva in the mouth. This condition is triggered by factors like pregnancy, fixing of dentures, inflammation of the inner mucus membranes of the oral cavity or stomatitis, damage caused to salivary glands due to injury to the nerves, or excessive consumption of particular anticonvulsant medicines. Ulcers and cold sores may also trigger increased production of saliva, as can tooth decay and tonsillitis. There may be a decrease in the frequency and efficiency of swallowing too caused by disorders like garstroesophageal reflux, sjogren’s syndrome and bell’s palsy, which may lead to this problem.
Excess Saliva Remedies
However, if you are suffering from the problem because you are pregnant, or you have mouth infections, or are just getting adjusted to dentures, then there is no reason to worry: the problem will almost certainly disappear on its own in a few weeks. However, in order to get rid of the feeling of discomfort that excessive salivation causes, you may suck on a small slice of a fresh lemon at regular intervals. Also, you should cut down on your consumption of sweets as sugar is known to induce greater production of saliva. Chewing a few sunflower seeds and placing a pinch of ground coffee under the tongue are also useful remedies for this problem.
