Benefits of Vinyasa Yoga | Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Yoga is an ancient Indian discipline that dates back to more than 5000 years ago. Yoga uses both physical exercises and breathing techniques to help you achieve physical and mental well-being. There are several different branches of yoga, one of which is Vinyasa yoga.

What is Vinyasa Yoga?

‘Vinyasa’ in Sanskrit means breath-synchronized movement. Thus, Vinyasa yoga is a dynamic type of yoga that uses a progressive series of postures while performing breathing exercises. Each movement is accompanied by one breath, both inhaling and exhaling. The postures are not held in a fixed position for long and they usually flow with rhythm to achieve synchronisation.

Vinyasa Yoga Poses

Vinyasa yoga has several physical and mental benefits. Performing the Vinayasa yoga poses creates internal heat. This heat purifies muscles and organs by expelling unwanted toxins from the body in the form of sweat. Thus, the body is rid of harmful substances making it healthier. The increased body heat also stimulates blood flow to various body parts. As blood carries with it essential nutrients and oxygen, different organs and body systems are replenishing these parts.

Next, just like the body increases its temperature to help fight an infection, the raised temperature helps the immune system and reduces any chance of infection. The heat reduces the chances of injury by helping the muscles loosen up and not straining them. The tendons and ligaments are sufficiently lubricated keeping them flexible. This will help you go deeper into a stretch than if you were doing it at a slow pace.

Additionally, the heat stimulates metabolic activity levels and speeds up the process of the breakdown of glucose and fatty acids. This helps to tone your body, giving it shape and definition and also assists the weight loss process.

The synchronized breathing helps you achieve conscious control of your body. This type of breathing relaxes the mind and body, and release any blockages of energy flow through the body. Several key organs such as the brain, heart, intestines, kidney, liver, and so on, receive an adequate supply of blood due to such concentrated breathing efforts.

Most Vinyasa yoga sessions last between 45 minutes to an hour due to its intense nature. As Vinyasa flow yoga is fast-paced and dynamic, if you are not fit, this session will seem extremely rigorous to you. Therefore, take care not to injure yourself while performing this type of yoga. Also, make sure you carry water with you as the body needs replenishment given the loss of water through sweat.
