Tantra Yoga: tantric yoga positions

Tantra Yoga is a very deep and profound understanding of the universe and things around us. The beauty of Tantra Yoga is that it takes a leaf out of various sciences and fuses them with the techniques of Yoga. At the same time it helps us to create a better understanding of the things and objects around us. It is like bringing together various elements such as human psychology, sociology, astrology, astronomy, mathematics and geometry to create a uniform understanding of the world around us and also to realise the power of the divinity or Shakti.

Tantra Yoga aims to increase our awareness and remain in the state of consciousness. This form of Yoga helps to program us according to various situations. For example, we are all born in a particular place and time. We grow up in a certain environment and community. At this stage our mind has been programmed to live in a particular location and environment. If we were to desire a shift away from our native place and look for opportunities in different environments and communities, we would need to reprogram our minds to adapt to various situations. This is where Tantra Yoga helps us widen our understanding of the world and our need to alter according to various places in time. The practice of the Tantra provides the means and expertise to transform our thoughts and emotions according to various situations. It also helps to create peace and harmony in the mind and bring it in to a state of calmness.

One of the most widely popular positions for Tantric Yoga is the downward Dog position. It’s fairly simple to practice. Take a Yoga mat and place it on the floor. Then position yourself on your hands and knees. Your legs should be hip-width apart. Slowly inhale and lift your knees making your feet totally straight. Put your weight on the toes. Now slowly lift your buttocks and draw your tailbone inward and straighten your arms, shift your weight on to the fingertips. Lower your head between the shoulders. Maintain this position for a minute and then come back to the starting position.

Another popular Tantric Yoga position is the Side Plank Yoga Pose. This is an extension of the Downward Dog Pose. From this position, tilt your foot towards the right side. Make sure your left foot is on top of the right foot. Stretch your left arm on top of your left hip, turning your torso in the same direction. Now straighten your left arm with your whole body balancing on the right arm and the two feet. Make sure the back of your legs are straight and your body position is straight. Maintain this pose for a few seconds and then return to a relaxed position. Now repeat the same position for the other side.
