How To Care Dry Skin
Dry skin, more often than not, is caused by a lack of sebum. This makes the skin lose its ability to retain water and gives it a parched look. To counter this one can use a variety of natural oils. Some of the most commonly used ones are sandalwood oil, rose oil and lavender oil. For best results, massage your skin gently with these oils and leave it on for a few hours.
Most soap available in the market is high in pH content and only makes the skin drier. Be careful in your choice of soap and go for ones that are gentle in action, preferably herbal. After washing, pat dry your skin instead of rubbing it down roughly.
Eggs are also ideal for dry sensitive skin. Make a mixture of egg yolk with one teaspoon each of orange juice and olive oil and add a few drops of rose water and lime juice. Apply the mixture every morning on your exposed skin at least fifteen minutes before having a bath. This treatment starts showing results within a few days. In this remedy, one could also substitute orange juice with honey and get the desired results.
A very important precaution to be taken is at night before going to sleep. Clean your skin with a gentle cleanser and toner. Pat dry using a soft towel and follow it up with a good moisturizer. Leave the moisturizer on for at least fifteen minutes before wiping it off with a tissue.
Direct exposure to sunlight can wreak havoc on skin that is already sensitive and dry. Always use a good sunscreen, preferably one with SPF protection, before stepping out. Also after every stint under the sun, clean your skin using a cleanser.
A weekly milk bath is another excellent way to soften dry skin. Add 250 grams of dairy whitener to warm bath water along with half a tablespoon of almond oil. Lie in the bath for at least half an hour to facilitate absorption. Aloe Vera is another excellent herb to ensure your skin remains healthy and glowing. Applying aloe Vera gel on your skin regularly aids in rapid regeneration of dead skin cells and also strengthens skin cells.
The diet is another ignored aspect when it comes to caring for dry skin. Eat foods that are high in sulfur content such as onions, eggs and asparagus to keep your skin smooth. To add to this, ensure that you drink a lot of water through the day.
