Severe Sunburn Remedies : How Can You Get Relieve Of Skin Redness

Home Remedies For Severe Sunburn

Sunburn is an unavoidable problem in temperate zones that experience severe summers. Essentially a result of overexposure to direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time, sunburn also causes excessive damage to the skin. The burn accompanying it is also extremely painful. Covering your skin when outside, and wearing a hat and sunscreen lotions, will serve as precautionary measures. There are some home made remedies that will alleviate the pain almost instantly and also reduce the skin damage, essentially, redness.

The first thing to do is bring down the temperature that the skin experiences in the event of sunburn. Use cold water or ice on the face to achieve this. In case of severe burns, remember to use only cold water as ice will only cause further damage. Having thus relieved the burning sensation somewhat, you can proceed to the cures. Lavender oil is an almost miraculous cure. Drip a few drops of lavender oil on to the affected area and gently spread it using a soft tissue. Within half an hour all the pain will vanish. However, remember not to take a shower immediately. Leave it on for a few hours, repeat if necessary and only shower later. To avoid taking chances, repeat the procedure once again the next morning. The best thing about this remedy is that not only does it relieve the burning almost immediately, but it also prevents any blistering on the skin.

Cool milk compresses too have been used with some degree of success in treating sunburn. The lactic acids in milk are ideal for sunburned skin. To administer, soak a soft cloth or cotton gauze in cooled whole milk and gently dab your face. Repeat this for about twenty minutes and then rinse off using cool water. Alternately, make a very strong tea. Cool it down to room temperature by adding ice and then dab on to the affected skin using a soft tissue. You could also fill this tea in a sprayer and spray directly on to the affected part.

Sandalwood is another excellent herbal remedy. Make a paste of sandalwood in water and apply all over the burns. This relieves the burning sensation and also reduces the resulting redness to a huge extent. One could also use tomato juice as a natural bleach. Mix fresh tomato juice with some buttermilk, apply on to your face and leave it on for at least thirty minutes. This is known to return your face to its natural complexion in a span of days. If the sunburn is severe, make a paste of cucumber, tomato, lemon juice and honey and apply over your face gently. Wait till this pack dries on your face and then replace with a fresh pack of the paste. Repeat this remedy thrice.
