- First lie supine on the floor – on your back with your legs stretched out.
- Now, turn to your right. Keep your legs extended, flex your ankles and press down firmly on the floor with your right heel. This helps to give stability to your balance. If you are a beginner, you may like to take support by pressing against a wall for greater stability and balance.
- Stretch out your right arm, lift your head slightly and place the right palm under the head. Your fingers should be under your chin, supporting the head. In this position, your body is stretched parallel to the floor, and forms one straight long line from the finger tips to the heels.
- Slide your elbow slightly outward from your torso, so that the armpit is stretched. Hold this pose for a few seconds.
- Now, breathe out and bend your left knee. Grip your left big toe with your left thumb, index and middle fingers. If you find it difficult, try looping a strap around the foot, to hold it comfortably. Stretch and straighten the leg upward, toward the ceiling, as much as is comfortably possible.
- Press firmly on the floor with both heels to prevent yourself from rolling over.
- Hold the pose for a few second, breathing evenly all the time.
- Bring down the leg and relax for a few seconds. Now roll over to the other side and repeat with the other leg.
