Mudras in Yoga
What is Mudra in Yoga?
Yoga Mudras mean graceful hand gestures. Mudras in yoga are very important in curing many diseases, since a lot of energy flows through the hands and fingers. Our body is made of five elements – Air, Water, Earth, Fire and ether - and each finger represents one of them. The thumb denotes agni (Fire), the forefinger denotes vayu (Air), the middle finger represents akash (Ether), while the ring finger denotes prithvi (Earth) and jal (Water) is depicted by the little finger.
The root cause of all diseases is an imbalance in any of these five elements, and these can be corrected by performing the correct mudras.
Benefits of yoga mudras
A yoga mudra is a gesture which connects the thumb with another finger. Thus the imbalance in the elements, connected to these particular fingers, is corrected; and the disease caused by it, is cured. When the fingers join, they create waves of electromagnetic currents in the body, and help the body to regain its health.
Mudras have a wide range of beneficial effects from reducing fatigue and depression, to increasing health, intellect, sexuality and glandular balance.
Performing the Yoga Mudras regularly will help to maintain the balance of your body.
