Butterfly pose or Titali asana

The Titali Asana or the butterfly position is good for stretching. If you want to try it out to lose weight, then this is not the ideal position. Remember that in yoga, you have to do a complete sequence of poses, and do them regularly for weight loss and to improve your flexibility. Butterfly yoga can be one of the exercises in your practice to help you become more supple and strong.

Butterfly pose

“Titali” in Sanskrit means “butterfly.” When you do this pose the position of your limbs is similar to the wings of a butterfly. While we advise you to work with a yoga teacher to learn the pose, you can get an idea about the yoga butterfly pose from our step by step guide.

  • First of all, sit comfortably to do this pose.

  • Then bend both your knees, and move your legs so that your feet, the soles and heels touch. When you bend them, place them as near the perineum region as possible.

  • Then reach out and hold you toes. Move your knees like the wings of a butterfly, which means that they should be moved up and down.

  • While you are doing this, make sure you keep your back straight. Do not waver your gaze and keep facing forward. Then exhale deeply and lean forward, so that you touch your big toes with your forehead.

  • After performing the butterfly pose, unfold your legs and straighten them. Shake them slightly and then relax.
