Chicken Pox Home Remedies - Signs And Symptoms Of Chicken Pox
Chicken Pox Symptoms And Remedies
Chicken pox is a viral infection that mostly affects children less than 10 years of age. As a rule, the attack gets more severe as one gets older. It is a condition in which red, itchy rashes appear on the skin and persist till roughly three weeks. The rashes gradually dry up and often leave behind marks on the skin. The initial symptoms include mild fever, runny nose, headache, nausea, lack of appetite and exhaustion. The three weeks following the first appearance of the rashes are called the incubation period. It is advisable not to come in close contact with an infected person during this period as chicken pox is highly contagious in nature and spreads very easily through droplets of mucus present in a patient’s breath and saliva. Generally, this disease affects a large number of children in the winter and spring seasons.
Though vaccination is the only way of preventing chicken pox, there are a few simple home remedies that may help relieve the symptoms if you have already contracted the infection. Add half a cup of brown vinegar in a tub of warm bathwater and soak your entire body in this for 15 minutes every day. This relieves the itching sensation. Adding some powdered oatmeal to your bathwater may also produce a similar soothing effect on the skin. You may also boil a cup of chickpeas in two liters of water and let the solution cool down to room temperature. Now use this solution to wash the affected areas in order to make your skin feel less itchy and scaly. For another remedy, add a tablespoon of baking soda to a glass of water and soak a ball of cotton wool in this solution. Now dab the affected areas with the cotton wool for 5-10 minutes. This helps cleanse the dead skin cells and germs present on the surface of the skin and makes your skin feel softer and less itchy. It is also beneficial to massage your entire body with vitamin E oil twice a day, once immediately after bathing and the second time before going to bed. This nourishes the skin and aids the natural healing process. You may also find it useful to externally apply honey on the affected parts of the skin. Honey moisturizes the skin naturally without making it too oily. For another remedy, boil 5 parts of carrots, cut into small pieces, and 3 parts of chopped coriander leaves together in a kettle of water for around 10 minutes. Throw away the solid residue and collect the clear liquid extract in a jar. Drink this soup once every day.
