Folliculitis Condition And Treatment

Folliculitis is a condition in which the hair follicles become inflamed and infected, causing local swelling and the appearance of pus-filled pimples on the surface of the skin. The skin around the affected area becomes red and in severe cases the pimples may turn into lesions and boils, which can lead to scarring and partial or even complete loss of hair from the affected area. A kind of bacteria called staphylococcus aureus is mostly responsible for causing this infection. Other kinds of viral or fungal infections may also cause folliculitis, especially in cases where the body’s natural immunity is already weak due to chronic ailments. This kind of infection often occurs in damp and unclean regions of the body, such as armpits, scalp, thighs and buttocks. Friction between the skin and the clothes one wears may also trigger this condition, as tight and synthetic garments can lead to conditions conducive for germs to infect and thrive in the hair follicles.

One of the basic measures that you must follow to prevent and treat folliculitis is to wash your body with a mild antiseptic soap. This greatly reduces the chances of bacterial infections by washing away dirt particles from the surface of the skin and destroying any germs that could potentially be the cause of infections. It is also important that every time you exercise or bathe, you soak up excess perspiration from the surface of your skin with a soft cotton towel in order to ensure that your skin is never damp. This goes a long way in preventing fungal infections. Always wear natural fabrics as they allow free passage of air through them to the skin and soak up excess perspiration, thereby minimizing the chances of infections. Avoid using oily creams and cosmetics, as they increase the risk of follicle infections. Washing the affected area with a solution of vinegar and water is also very helpful in removing dead skin cells from the surface of the skin and preventing the spread of the infection to other parts of the body. Eat a few cloves of raw garlic during every meal, as the strong juices of garlic naturally destroy germs and cure folliculitis. Massaging the affected area with the juice of garlic is also helpful in treating this condition. You should also include natural sources of vitamin C in your diet such as citrus fruits, as this strengthens the body’s immune system and cures folliculitis.
