Supta virasana or Reclining hero pose
Supta Virasana or the Reclining Hero pose is a variation of the Virasana or the Warrior pose, which is done in the reclining pose. Before you attempt this pose, you need to be able to sit on the floor, with your buttocks placed between your feet.
How to do the Reclining Hero Pose:
Anatomical focus: This yoga posture focuses on the shoulders, abdomen, arches, ankles, knees, groin, and thighs.
Therapy: The Reclining Hero pose is therapeutic for respiratory ailments, menstrual discomfort, intestinal acidity, flatulence, insomnia, infertility, high blood pressure, headache, head cold, flat feet, digestive problems, asthma, arthritis, sciatica and varicose veins.

Caution: You must not do this posture if you have ankle problems, knee injuries or back problems.
Also, it is advisable to do this pose under the guidance of an instructor.
Props: If you are a beginner, then it is advisable to use a few props like cushions or folded blankets to support your head or spine.
How to do the Reclining Hero Pose:
- To do this, you first need to sit on your heels, in the Vajrasana pose. Then breathe out and move your upper body towards the floor. Then take the support of your hands as well as forearms and slowly take the support of your elbows.
- Make sure that your knees are spread out wide apart, so that your knee joints do not feel any strain. If you feel that it is difficult to touch your buttocks onto the floor, then place a cushion or a folded mat and sit on it. Listen to your body as you do this pose and concentrate wholly on the posture.
- Tilt your upper body back and slowly touch down on the floor. You can use your hands for support as you bend your body back. Stretch out your arms over your head, and relax your shoulders as well as your back. Be in this position for a few seconds.
- Then when you want to sit up, use your arms to support your body. This is a relaxing and stretching pose. So while doing this restorative yoga pose, make sure that you are totally relaxed and that no strain is being put on your body.
