Dark Eye Circles Treatment

The appearance of dark circles under the eyes may be a sign of ageing. As one grows older, the thin, sensitive skin under the eyes loses its natural elasticity and begins to appear puffy and dark. Dark circles may also be the result of excessive intake of coffee, alcohol and smoking, as these dehydrate the skin. Lack of adequate sleep and prolonged illness may also lead to this problem. It has also been observed that dark circles run in families and is therefore genetic in nature in many cases.

Simple Remedies to Treat Dark Circles Under the Eyes

There are a few simple remedies that you may follow at home to treat this condition. One of the most effective natural means of getting rid of dark circles is to slice a cucumber in to thin pieces and put them over the eyes. You should lie down and let the cucumber slices stay on your eyes for at least 15 minutes before removing them. You may also grate the cucumber finely and apply its juice under your eyes every day. Cucumber juice moisturizes the delicate skin under the eyes, produces a soothing effect, and acts as both a bleaching and a skin tightening agent, thereby making the dark circles disappear in a few months. For another remedy, make a fine paste by mixing together a teaspoon each of gram flour and tomato juice, a pinch of turmeric powder and a few drops of lemon juice. Smear this paste gently under your eyes and leave it on for 10 minutes before wiping it away with piece of cotton wool soaked in water. You could also try piercing a vitamin E capsule and applying its contents under your eyes carefully with your fingertips. Follow this remedy regularly to make dark circles less prominent. A very popular remedy for dark circles is to apply a couple of cold used tea bags on the eyes for 10-15 minutes every day. Make sure that the bags are not too moist. You should also drink a cup of tomato juice mixed with the juices of some fresh mint leaves and of a lemon and a pinch of salt every morning. This produces a significant reduction in dark circles. Another effective home remedy for treating dark circles is to add a pinch of turmeric powder to two tablespoons of pineapple juice and massage the skin under your eyes very gently with mixture every day. Also, before going to bed every night massage the area with a little almond oil.
