Dog Bite Treatment
Natural Treatment For Dog Bite
Dog bites can easily be prevented by following a few basic rules. It is imperative that you train your dog through discipline and not violence in order that it does not turn naturally aggressive. Neutering your dog is a way of ensuring that it does not become ferocious and unpredictable. You must also get your dog vaccinated at regular intervals. Special care should be taken to teach children how to treat dogs. Parents should always accompany children when they play with a pet dog. It is also advisable not to disturb dogs while they are eating, sleeping or suckling. Whenever you step out of doors with your dog, make sure that you have a leash to keep it in control.
If a dog tries to attack you, protect your face and neck as these are at the greatest risk of injury from a dog bite. If you have been merely scratched by the dog’s claws, you should immediately wash your skin with antibacterial soap and cold water, and follow this up with the application of an antibiotic cream or ointment and wrap up the area with sterile gauze. This minimizes the chances of local infection. If the wound is deep and causes bleeding, you should wash away the saliva of the dog by washing the skin very gently with water for some time and then tie up the area with bandage. Applying fresh onion juice on the bite is supposed to destroy the germs that might have been transmitted into the wound from the dog’s saliva and prevent infection.
Another natural means of countering the poisonous effect of the dog’s saliva is to grind two teaspoons of cumin seeds with some black pepper to a fine powder, add a little water to this to obtain a thick paste and apply it on the wound regularly. You may also dress the wound with a paste made by grinding together some walnut, onion and salt in equal parts and adding to it a little honey. This mixture should be applied to the wound with the use of bandage to prevent infection and poisoning.
Keep in mind that although these remedies are believed to be effective against a number of infections rabies is the biggest threat from dog bites and is not curable. It would be best not to take a risk and take the required vaccines from a medical practitioner within 48 hours of the bite.
