Nasal Bleeding: How To Stop Nosebleed With Home Treatment
Nose bleeds or a bleeding nasal passage are usually quite harmless, and can be caused by a variety of factors. The tiny blood vessels called capillaries may rupture and bleed, causing what is called an anterior nosebleed. They are caused by dry air, or in conditions of excessive indoor heating where the nasal membranes dry up completely, and may bleed when an attempt is made to pick out the crusts. Conversely one can also have a posterior nosebleed where blood leaks from the deep end of the nose, and may even go into the mouth. It occurs in older people with high blood pressure or in those who have injured their face or nose. If the bleeding goes on incessantly for 10 minutes, you should consult a doctor immediately as the damage can be serious. If you have just recovered from a bout of severe cold, you may have a nose bleed if you have blown it severely and frequently. Cocaine abuse is another cause, and it is sometimes a symptom of an underlying disease, hence if it persists despite the remedies here, you must consult your physician.
Treatment For Nasal Bleeding
On the home front, use a tissue or a damp, clean cloth to gently soak up the blood. Tilt your head forward, and use your thumb and fore finger to pinch your nose right below the bony centre of the nose. Apply steady pressure for the bleeding to stop for a full ten minutes. Take a paper towel or clean piece of cloth and wrap an ice cube into it. Keep it on the nostrils till the bleeding stops. Do not blow your nose immediately after a nose bleed, and try not to lift heavy objects for a while. It would also help to avoid stressful situations. Use a pillow while sleeping so that the head is placed above the heart. A humidifier can be used in the house to purify the air, and prevent allergy and virus related nose bleeds to some extent. Saline water drops, and an application of petroleum jelly in the night before going to bed is also highly beneficial if you are subject to frequent nosebleeds. Soak a tiny cotton ball in lemon juice, and place it in the nostril for about 2-4 minutes or alternatively grind a little cumin and mix with apple cider vinegar in the same proportion, and soak up with cotton ball. Place in the nostril for one minute. You may also drink a glass of warm water into which 1 teaspoon of cayenne pepper has been added to prevent nose bleeds.
