Splinter Removal: How To Remove Splinter From Foot Naturally

It is not uncommon to have splinters embedded in the skin. This can be very painful and if not given careful attention may even become infected. It is best to avoid the possibility of becoming infected by giving the wound immediate attention. Before suggesting any methods of removing a splinter from the skin and disinfecting the area, it is important to consider how such an injury can be avoided. While working around splinters, ensure that you keep yourself well covered to protect your sensitive skin from being pierced by splinters. Do not walk barefoot and ensure that you are wearing socks and covered footwear to ensure that you don’t gather any splinters in your skin. If the splinter has pierced a sensitive area, like the eyes, then you should seek medical help immediately. If you observe any redness, inflammation, pus or itchiness then you are probably developing an infection and you should seek medical assistance immediately. There are several simple ways to remove a splinter from the skin.

Some Tips To Remove Splinters

Firstly, it is important to remember that a splinter in the skin tends to work itself out naturally in a few days time. Therefore, if the splinter is embedded too deep in the skin, it is better to wait for it to work its way out rather than breaking open the skin to remove it immediately. Wash the area with an antiseptic solution thoroughly and then pat it dry. Make a paste using baking soda and water and then apply this paste on the area affected by the splinter. Cover the area with a bandage and leave the baking soda overnight. This will bring the splinter closer to the surface of the skin thereby making it easier to remove. Alternatively, you can apply Elmer’s glue or duct tape to the affected area. Wait until the glue or tape adheres well to the area. This will make the process of removing the splinter easier. You can apply a slice of potato directly to the area affected by the splinter. Alternatively, you can apply a piece of bacon fat on the affected area, wrap it in a bandage and leave it on overnight. This will cause the splinter to rise to the surface and make it easy to remove.

Soak your feet in warm water that has been sprinkled with salt. Soak your feet for at least fifteen minutes and then using sterilized tweezers, remove the splinter from your foot.
