Alopecia Areata Treatment: What Is Alopecia And How To Treat It

Alopecia Areata And Treatments

Alopecia areata refers to a condition that causes acute hair loss in the form of bald patches. While the cause for this condition is unknown, it is believed that it is connected to autoimmune diseases. Studies have proved that occasionally they can occur in people who have a family history of this condition as well. The risk category includes children, those in their early teens and young adults. However, older people and babies can also be affected. It occurs more on one side of the head than the other and may, although rarely, extend to other parts of the body as well. Most people who suffer from this condition are in excellent health otherwise, and the hair is likely to grow back in a years’ time without any treatment. At home, it may be useful to mix essential oils, particularly thyme, lavender, rosemary, cedar wood essential oil and jojoba and grape seed carrier oils. The concoction can then be massaged into the scalp on a daily basis for best results. Crush a few onions and apply the juice onto the scalp. Keep on for about an hour and then wash off. Apply margosa oil to the bald spots by gently massaging in with your finger tips. It should start showing results if used regularly for about three months. Take a handful of black gram and boil it. Now grind it into a paste and apply onto the spots and leave overnight. Wash it off in the morning.

It is essential to maintain a healthy balanced diet while afflicted with this condition. Milk, lean meat, fish liver oil, cabbage, spinach, broccoli and carrots are rich in Vitamin A which accentuates the production of sebum for the hair and works as an antioxidant as well. Another antioxidant is Vitamin C which is found in citrus fruits, dark green coloured vegetables, tomatoes and potatoes. Some researchers believe that biotin which is found in rice, milk, whole grains, liver and the yolk of eggs, helps to produce a substance called keratin which is involved in the production of hair and nails. Sesame seeds, nuts lentils and fish (both sea and fresh water) are excellent sources of calcium that promotes hair growth. Diseases of the thyroid gland are known to cause hair loss and your diet will have to include fish, seaweed, kelp, garlic and iodized salt. Organ meat, egg yolk, liver and whole grains contain vitamin B6 which promotes the growth of hair by increasing melanin production.
