Heaviness Feeling: Cause And Remedies Of Chest And Leg Heaviness
Causes Of Chest Heaviness
The body may feel heavy for various reasons, in fact every part of the body may feel heavy for a different reason. Chest heaviness for instance could be the result of an asthmatic attack or in extreme cases, a heart attack. The most common cause for chest heaviness though is hurt burn, medically termed gastro oesophageal reflex disease or GERD. This condition is the result of over eating or indulging in food that is extremely spicy. If the chest heaviness is accompanied by pain, consult a doctor immediately. The heaviness could very well be the result of high blood pressure, diabetes, chain smoking, drug abuse, excessive stress, stomach ulcers, pneumonia or even a racking cough.
Leg Heaviness Causes
When the vascular system in the body begins to malfunction, the legs may begin to swell causing a feeling of heaviness. When an excessive amount of lymphatic fluid accumulates and obstructs the lymph vessels, the legs particularly and the body on the whole may feel heavy. Varicose veins which signify a lack of blood circulation can also cause heaviness in the legs. Elevating your legs periodically during the day, improving the leg muscles by walking daily will help reduce the incidence of such attacks. The stomach too may feel heavy, lethargic or sluggish due to over eating, consuming greasy, spicy food or cramps. One remedy that can be tried out for this condition involves placing a few egg plants above a barbeque. Once it has heated up sufficiently, add a little sodium bicarbonate to it and tie up the mixture in a piece of clean cotton cloth. Take care to see that it is not too hot and place over the belly for some time.
The feeling of heaviness could even be due to a lack of proper sleep, a poor diet and undue stress. While the amount of sleep required would differ according to one’s body’s requirements, about 6 hours is necessary for most people. Make sure your diet contains plenty of fruits, vegetables, pulses, whole grains, nuts and seeds, fish, egg and lean meat to provide the necessary nutrients for the body. Drink about 4-5 litres of water every day and cut down on alcohol, smoking, caffeinated drinks and artificially flavoured drinks. Try to avoid stressful situations as much as possible and it would be advisable to go for yoga or meditation classes to ease the mind of worry and thus guarantee the body good health.
