Colitis Disease - Causes and Prevention

Colitis, the inflammation of the colon, can be traced to various reasons – from infection, to poor supply of blood or even to autoimmune reactions.  Our colon, that is the large intestine, collects and stories the waste products after digestions. The colon is a long tube which pushes the food that remains undigested towards the anus from where it emerges as a bowel movement. Colitis can be caused due to various illness or infections. One of the most common of these is food poisoning, caused by various bacteria. When you suffer from these you have diarrhea and suffer dehydration. Another type of colitis, Pseudomembranous Colitis is caused when people have been taking antibiotics for some infection. It is the antibiotic that changes the normal bacteria in the colon and actually allows a certain bacteria to over grow. It is this bacterium that produces a toxin which causes diarrhea. When you suffer from this condition, you will have an infection and a fever though the diarrhea is not usually bloody.
