Home Remedies For Morning Nausea During Pregnancy

One of the most common problems that a majority of women face during pregnancy is nausea. This problem manifests itself mostly in the first trimester of the pregnancy but can sometimes last longer. Though the feeling of queasiness can sometimes last throughout the day, it is most acute in the early hours of the day, and is therefore commonly known as morning sickness. In extreme cases the vomiting tendency may lead to dehydration and weight loss. The high level of estrogen in a pregnant woman’s body could be one of the possible causes behind morning sickness. The body also releases a greater amount of the hormone progesterone in order to relax the muscles of the uterus, which has the side-effect of relaxing the muscles of the stomach and intestines as well. This, in turn, stimulates the stomach to secrete digestive acids in greater amounts into the system and consequently leads to queasiness.

Natural Remedies To Cure Pregnancy Nausea

There are a few simple home remedies to relieve nausea.

  • Avoid being on an empty stomach at any time of the day. Eating a few dry crackers in the morning is a good idea.

  • Also, instead of three big meals, have five or six small meals throughout the day, at regular intervals.

  • The body becomes particularly sensitive to particular odors during pregnancy, which may trigger the feeling of nausea. Smelling freshly cut lemons is known to be of help in countering this.

  • You could also put three drops of lavender essential oil and a drop of peppermint in a humidifier and spray it in the air to avoid reaction to smells.

  • If drinking liquids increases the tendency to vomit, you could consume frozen fruit juice or ice cubes instead.

  • Another useful remedy is to make a mixture of equal portions of mint juice, lime juice and honey and drink this three to four times a day.

  • For another remedy, add a little wheat germ in a cup of warm milk and drink a few spoonfuls every hour.

  • The juice of 20-25 curry leaves, mixed with two teaspoons of fresh lime juice and one teaspoon honey may also be consumed thrice a day to counter nausea.

  • You could also substitute the juice of curry leaves with that of ginger in this solution and follow the same procedure.

  • Vitamin B and calcium supplements also help in reducing queasiness.

  • Drinking ginger tea is another time-tested home remedy for morning sickness.

  • Also, try avoiding food rich in fat and cholesterol.
