Indigestion, technically known as dyspepsia, is the incomplete processing of food in the stomach caused by the inadequate or improper secretion of digestive juices. The most common signs of indigestion are formation of gas, acidity and heartburn. Overeating, not chewing food properly or eating in a hurry, eating improperly cooked food and lack of physical activity or exercise are the chief causes of indigestion.

Natural Cure For Indigestion


There are a few home remedies to treat indigestion.

  • Lemon juice is an effective natural agent that prevents indigestion. Add a tablespoon of lemon juice into a cup of lukewarm water and drink this before every meal to avoid acidity and indigestion.

  • You could also mix a tablespoon each of lemon juice and ginger juice and two tablespoons of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink this solution to get relief from indigestion.

  • Eating grapes is also helpful in countering the effects of indigestion.

  • Drink half a glass of pineapple juice after every meal.

  • In case you want instant relief, mix a teaspoon of cumin seeds in a glass of water and drink it.

  • Mixing equal parts of baking soda and water and drinking this solution is another instant remedy for indigestion.

  • In order to improve digestion, eat half a teaspoon of aniseed oil every day.

  • You could also consume a spoonful of the juice extracted from fresh coriander leaves and mixed with a pinch of salt. Alternatively, consume a little amount of coriander seeds and rock salt together daily.

  • Chew a little piece of ginger with a pinch of common salt before every meal to ensure proper digestion.

  • Add a teaspoon of coriander juice to a cup of fresh buttermilk and drink this every day to improve digestion.

  • Drinking a tablespoon of cinnamon water an hour after every meal prevents the formation of gas and aids digestion.

  • Ground cardamom seeds or cloves also have similar effects.

  • Another effective remedy is to boil a few fenugreek seeds in butter and eat them.

  • If you suffer from indigestion regularly, eat a gram of asafetida powder raw or mixed with buttermilk every day to remedy the problem.

  • Alternatively, make a paste by mixing the juice of a sweet pomegranate with a few cumin seeds and some jaggery and eat a teaspoon of this thrice a day till the problem is cured.

  • Besides these particular remedies, follow a regular diet schedule to avoid indigestion. Eat at fixed timings, and maintain a gap of at least four hours between meals.
