Causes Of Strep Throat And Treatment

A person can get a sore throat due to various reasons. There are many substances that can irritate the sensitive membranes of a person’s throat and cause an infection. Some of these irritants include smoke, dust, hot foods, gum infections and tooth infections. At times even loud singing or talking can cause a throat infection or bouts of excessive coughing. But the major causes of the throat infection are due to viral infections. These include flu, common cold, and mononucleosis. There is a bacterial infection that is called as strep throat which is basically a result of Streptococcus. This Streptococcus is found to be a common bacterial strain which lives in a person’s respiratory system for many months. Most sore throats are said to run through their course in days or weeks time. When a sore throat occurs post an allergy or a cold then the chances are it is a viral infection. But if the sore throat comes along with a fever and pus on the tonsils then it will most probably be a strep throat. In this case the back of one’s throat will also become inflamed, red and raw looking. Also if the throat is sore and there are no accompanying cold symptoms then again this will indicate that the infection is possibly a strep infection.
