Home Remedies For Asthma Attack Treatment

Asthma is a serious respiratory disorder caused by an allergic reaction that takes place when certain allergens or irritants enter the body. The most common symptoms of asthma are coughing, a feeling of suffocation in the chest, noisy and difficult respiration. Sometimes a major asthma attack may also cause breathing to become very feeble and painful, a sudden increase in the pulse rate and even unconsciousness. During an attack of asthma, the airways lining the lungs become swollen with mucus and the muscles around them expand, causing an obstruction in the free passage of air through the respiratory tract. The allergens that trigger an asthma attack may be present in the air one breathes, especially if the air contains pollutants and dust particles, or may also be present in foods, drinks, medicines or perfumes.

Natural Remedy For Asthma Relief

You may try a few home remedies to treat asthma.

  • Put a few drops of eucalyptus or lavender essential oil in a tub of hot water and inhale the steam in order to get instant relief from breathlessness during an asthma attack.

  • You may also add a pinch of camphor into a bowl of warm mustard oil and massage your chest with this. This is a useful way of preventing chest congestion and naturally expelling accumulated phlegm.

  • For another remedy, soak a few fenugreek seeds in a cup of water overnight, strain the water the next morning and add to it a few drops of honey and a teaspoon of ginger juice. Drink this solution twice a day.

  • If you have just started to show asthmatic tendencies, boil 8-10 cloves of garlic in half a glass of milk and drink this decoction every night before going to bed.

Tips To Prevent Asthma Attack

  • The most effective way of preventing asthma attacks is to observe and note the pattern or the conditions in which such attacks occur. This is useful in tracking down the allergens that cause irritation in the lungs. Staying away from allergens is the best way to prevent asthma attacks.

  • It is advisable that you keep your surroundings clean and dust-free and keep your windows closed if there is pollen or dust particles in the air outside, as these are the most common irritants.

  • Regular vacuuming of objects like books, clothes, carpets and bed linen is also essential to keep the environment dust-free.

  • Keep away from pets, as their hair may lead to asthma attacks. Avoid smoking – both active and passive, as the fumes can irritate the lungs.
