Treat Yeast Infection Naturally | Home Remedies For Yeast Infection

The most common form of yeast infection is vaginal yeast infection caused by the fungus called Candida albicans. It is said that this fungus is usually present even in healthy women, but it is the uncontrolled increase in the fungus that causes problems. No wonder, then that over 75% of women suffer from yeast infection at least once in their lifetimes. It is usually a minor infection that can be cured in a couple of days; however, if left untreated, it can last for a few years. Sometimes, yeast infections tend to occur in the mouth too, a phenomenon most commonly observed in babies and infants. This too should be treated immediately to avoid future discomfort.

  • In the case of vaginal yeast infection, yogurt is an excellent remedy. Use fresh yogurt that is unsweetened, as sugar only feeds the fungus. Consume it regularly with your meals.

  • You could also dip a tampon in yogurt and insert it into the vagina, or rub it on from the outside. The good bacteria in yogurt prove extremely useful in fighting Candida albicans.

  • Garlic is another priceless home remedy. Eating a lot of garlic greatly helps to get rid of yeast infection. However, what brings maximum results is inserting a clove of garlic in the vagina every few hours or applying a paste made out of garlic directly on to the affected area. Though this may burn, garlic is an excellent natural antibiotic and destroys the fungus with ease. To avoid the burning sensation, one could also wrap the cloves in cheesecloth before inserting it into the vagina.

  • Tea tree oil is another undisputed antifungal remedy. Pour a few drops of it onto a tampon, insert it into the vagina and let it stay for a couple of hours.

  • Vinegar too is a useful remedy. Fill a bathtub with water mixed with one cup of vinegar. Soak it for about half an hour and dry off the infected part with absorbent paper. For best results, use apple cider vinegar.

  • In addition, special attention has to be paid to what you wear. Avoid tight fitting undergarments and jeans. Never stay in wet clothes and always keep the affected area dry. Also avoid deodorants or perfumes on the affected parts. Stay away from non-cotton underwear and especially panty-hose.

  • Drink a lot of water throughout the day and stay away from foods that feed yeast. These would include sugar, refined foods, confectionaries, oatmeal, pasta and the like. Alcohol is a strict no-no during the course of the infection.
