Natural Headache Relief | Headaches Remedies

A headache is one of the most common conditions among people. Most headaches are functional and are simply temporary in nature. The actual pain could arise from irritation to the nerve endings in the shoulder, neck, and scalp muscles. Other common causes of headaches are allergies, straining of the eyes, emotional stress, high blood pressure, infections, hangovers, low blood sugar, nutritional deficiencies and tension.

Home Remedies For Headache Treatment

There are many basic remedies for the various types or headaches.

  • The easiest way would be by drinking lots of water. Dehydration sometimes causes the blood vessels to constrict in an effort to save body fluids.

  • Taking a hot shower, and allowing the water to run on your lower back and neck would also improve the flow of blood to the head and relax the muscles.

  • Using acupressure techniques would also help provide instant relief. Place one of your fingers between your eyebrows and the other finger directly on the top of your head. Apply gentle pressure and hold for a few minutes.

  • If you have severe pain in your temples, try rubbing an ice pack or a cold towel on them. Ice therapy provides instant relief for an unbearable headache. The ice numbs the pain and reduces the amount of inflammation, thereby allowing enough blood to flow.

  • Having two spoons of honey with each meal is also said to helps relax the arteries and allow free movement of blood to the brain.

  • Rubbing some peppermint oil on your forehead, neck and temples or even sniffing a few drops could also be highly effective in curing headaches.

  • Apples are also very good to cure frequent headaches. They should be had every morning with salt, on an empty stomach. For effective results this remedy should be continued for at least a week.

  • If you start to feel the symptoms of a headache coming on, you should instantly go for a brisk walk. This usually helps to stimulate the circulatory system and allow more blood and oxygen to the brain.

  • In general, one of the best ways to prevent a headache is to build up sufficient physical resistance through proper nutrition and exercise.

While treating a headache, avoid taking painkillers – instead, try finding the root cause. All headaches are caused either due to emotional, chemical, or physical problems. Painkillers would only get rid of the symptom temporarily, and taking them excessively over a period of time could result in other serious health conditions.
